How to split text into parts
- 1
Paste the text or drop a file
Paste into the box or drop a .txt, .md or .csv file. Pasted text becomes a file too, so what you see is what you download.
- 2
Choose how to cut it
By character count for a length limit, by line count for lists and paragraphs, into equal parts, or at a separator such as ---.
- 3
Download the parts
Pick a part above the panes to read it. Download all (ZIP) takes every part at once; Download one by one lists them with sizes.
What this text splitter does
This text splitter cuts a long text into parts, blocks or separate files in four ways: by character count, by line count, into a set number of equal parts, or at a separator you choose. The first part appears next to your source as soon as the text is in, and the picker above the panes opens every other part with its character count. Each part becomes its own .txt file, and all of them download together as one ZIP named after your file. If the settings leave a single part, you get one .txt file instead of an archive.
Cutting text to fit a character limit
When a message box, a form or a translator takes only so many characters, type that number into Characters per part. Telegram's Bot API documentation, viewed on October 20, 2026, allows up to 4,096 characters in a message and up to 1,024 in a caption under a photo or file. Any number from 100 to 1,000,000 works, and no part comes out longer than it. By default each cut moves back to the end of the last full sentence. In our check on October 20, 2026, a Russian text of 49,553 characters cut at 4,096 gave 13 parts of 1,440 to 4,092 characters, each ending on a full stop.
Paragraphs, chapters and other blocks
The Separator field holds a single line, so it cannot split at an empty line. When every paragraph is one line, choose By line count with 1 line per part: empty lines are dropped and each paragraph becomes a part, and in our check 102 paragraphs gave 102 parts. If text copied out of a PDF breaks at the end of every line, run it through Remove Line Breaks on Join lines, keep paragraphs first; its row of next tools brings the result back here. Chapters marked with a line such as --- split At a separator, which drops the marker or keeps it at the start or end of a part. A CSV cut by line count keeps its header only in the first part, while Split CSV repeats it in every part.
Equal parts are close, not identical
Into equal parts divides the length by the number you type, from 2 to 500, and cuts there. With Cut at on End of a sentence or End of a word, each cut moves back to a boundary, so the parts differ a little and the text left over can form one more, short part. In our check, a 49,553-character text asked for two parts gave three, of 24,769, 24,629 and 151 characters, and asked for five gave six. Exactly on the count, under More settings, cuts on the number itself, even inside a word, and gave exactly five.
Your text stays on your device
The text is read, cut and packed into the archive by your browser, and each part goes straight to your download. No part of it is sent to a server, and there is no account to create. The ZIP stores the parts without compression, so the archive is about the size of the text itself: in our check, 86 kB of text gave an 87 kB archive.
Frequently asked questions
How do I split a text file into multiple files?
Drop the .txt file here, choose how to cut it and press Download all (ZIP). Each part is a separate .txt inside the archive: part-01.txt, part-02.txt and so on, or part-001.txt once there are 100 parts or more; File numbering under More settings drops the zeros. A file called notes.txt gives pulsarkit-notes-split.zip, and a single part comes as notes-part-1.txt.
How do I split text into equal parts?
Choose Into equal parts and type how many you need. On the default setting the cuts move back to sentence ends, so the parts differ slightly and a short extra part can appear at the end. To keep to the number you typed, set Cut at to Exactly on the count under More settings.
Can I split text by paragraphs?
Yes, when each paragraph is a single line: choose By line count and set Lines per part to 1. Every paragraph becomes a part, and the empty lines between them are dropped. The Separator field cannot hold a line break, so it cannot do this job.
Will it cut in the middle of a word or sentence?
Not on the default setting. A cut moves back to the end of the nearest sentence, up to 1,000 characters, and failing that to the nearest space, up to 200. Only text with neither in reach is cut exactly on the count, and so is everything when Cut at is set to Exactly on the count.
How are characters counted?
Every character counts, spaces and line breaks included, and most emoji count as two. In our check, a part with 20 emoji showed 3,985 characters here, while Word Counter counted each of those emoji once and gave 3,965 for the same file. A part never holds more visible characters than its count.
What is the shortest part I can set?
100 characters. A smaller number in Characters per part works as 100: with 70 typed, a short text came out in parts of up to 98 characters. So this tool cannot keep parts under a limit lower than 100.
How many parts can I get?
Up to 500 at a time. When the settings would make more, the page says how many and offers a way out. With 70 typed, our 49,553-character text would have made 658 parts; Cut into bigger pieces raised the setting to 140 characters, which gave 476. At a separator, the button offers to cut by character count instead.
Can a part go straight to another tool?
Only when the split gives one part: the row of next tools then opens it in Word Counter or Find and Replace without a new download. With several parts the result is a ZIP, which those text tools do not open, so the next tool starts empty; download the part you need and drop it there.
