Signature maker

Draw your signature with a finger or a mouse, type it in a handwriting font, or lift it off a photograph of paper.

How to Download the signature

  1. 1

Draw, type or photograph your signature

Drawing works with a mouse, a finger or a stylus. Typing produces a handwriting version of your name. Photographing works from a signature on plain paper, with the background lifted away.

  2. 2

    Adjust the color and thickness

Set the ink colour, the stroke weight and whether the line thins as you move faster. For a photograph, the threshold slider decides how much of the paper counts as background.

  3. 3

Download the transparent PNG or sign a PDF

The result is cropped to the ink with a small margin and saved as a PNG with real transparency. One button hands the same image straight to the PDF signing tool.

Why the background is genuinely transparent

A signature saved on a white rectangle looks fine on its own and ruins the document it lands on: the block of white covers whatever text sits beneath it. So the PNG here carries a real alpha channel, and the corners of the file are empty rather than white. In photo mode the transparency is graded rather than binary: a pixel darker than the threshold keeps an opacity proportional to how dark it is, so the soft edges of a real pen stroke survive instead of turning into a jagged cut-out. The image is then cropped to the ink itself with a small configurable margin, which is what makes it drop cleanly onto a signature line.

How the drawing is smoothed

Raw pointer data is noisy: touchscreens report jitter of a pixel or two even when your finger is still, and the samples arrive at irregular intervals. Points closer than two pixels to the previous one are discarded, which removes a third of the data without changing the shape. What remains is drawn as quadratic curves whose control point is the sample itself and whose end point is the midpoint of the next segment. This makes neighbouring segments meet with a continuous tangent, so the visible kink at every sample disappears. With pressure simulation switched on, the stroke width is derived from speed averaged over the last four samples: a fast flourish comes out thin, a slow deliberate stroke comes out thick, the way a real nib behaves.

This is a visual signature, not a digital one

What you get here is a picture of your signature. It carries no certificate, no cryptographic binding to a document and no timestamp, so it does not prove who signed or that nothing changed afterwards. For most everyday paperwork that is exactly what is asked for and it is fine. For anything requiring a qualified electronic signature you need a certificate-based service; no image-based tool, ours included, can substitute for one.

Your signature never leaves this tab

Drawing, typing and background removal all happen in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is written to storage, and the signature is not kept between visits. Sending it to the PDF signing tool moves it inside your own browser through local storage, not through a server.

Frequently asked questions

Is a signature made here legally binding?

It is a visual signature, an image of your handwriting. In many jurisdictions that is enough for ordinary agreements, but it is not a qualified electronic signature and carries no certificate. For anything where the law demands one, use a certificate-based provider.

Is my signature image sent to a server?

No. Everything happens in JavaScript in this tab: the drawing, the handwriting rendering and the background removal from a photograph. No image is uploaded and none is stored.

How do I lift my signature off a sheet of paper?

Sign a clean white sheet with a dark pen, photograph it in even light without a shadow across the page, and choose photo mode. Everything lighter than the threshold becomes transparent; move the slider up if parts of the stroke are missing, down if the paper texture comes through.

Why is the background transparent?

So the signature can sit on top of a document without covering the text around it. A white box behind a signature is the single most common reason a signed PDF looks wrong.

Can I draw with my finger on a phone?

Yes. Pointer events cover mouse, finger and stylus with the same code, and the canvas disables scrolling gestures over itself so drawing does not move the page. A stylus gives the steadiest result.

What is the difference between the PNG and the SVG?

The PNG is pixels with transparency and works everywhere. The SVG stores the strokes as paths, so it scales to any size and can be recoloured, but it is only available for drawn and typed signatures, because a photograph has no paths to store.

How do I put the signature into a PDF?

Press the button that hands it to the PDF signing tool. Your signature travels there inside your own browser, and the upload area on that page arrives already filled in, so you only have to place it on the page.
