How to Extract to Excel

  1. 1

    Upload your PDF

A report, invoice, statement or any document with tables, up to 300 MB and 200 pages.

  2. 2

    Pick the detection mode

Auto works for most documents; choose Lattice or Stream yourself if a table has an unusual layout.

  3. 3

    Download the workbook

One sheet per table, with real cells you can sort, filter and calculate on, not a block of pasted text.

Lattice or Stream: two ways to see a table

Lattice looks for tables drawn with visible grid lines, the way most invoices, bank statements and reports lay them out. It is precise and fast when the lines are there. Stream has no lines to go on, so it infers columns from how the text lines up and from the gaps between words, which works on tables that rely on spacing and alignment alone. Auto tries Lattice first, since it is the more reliable of the two when it applies, and falls back to Stream only if the result looks weak.

An accuracy score for every table, before you commit

Each table camelot finds comes with a measured accuracy score, and tables below the threshold you set are left out of the workbook rather than included as garbled data. So you can see whether a table's structure was picked up cleanly before you open the file, instead of discovering broken rows and merged cells afterwards. A photocopy with faint lines or a table that spans an awkward page break will typically score lower, and that low score is useful information rather than a fault.

One sheet per table, or merge the ones that match

By default every table becomes its own sheet, named by page and table number, so a report with several small tables does not collapse them into one confusing block. Turn on merging and tables that share the same number of columns are stitched together into a single sheet with one header row. That suits a report where the same table repeats across several pages and you would rather have it as one continuous range.

Processed on our server, deleted automatically

Table detection needs a real layout-analysis engine that no browser-based library provides, so the file is uploaded for processing. The uploaded file is deleted as soon as the job finishes. The result stays downloadable for one hour and is wiped from the server within about two hours, whether or not you download it. There is no account and nothing to clean up by hand.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between Lattice and Stream?

Lattice detects tables drawn with visible grid lines and is the more precise option when those lines exist. Stream infers columns from text alignment and spacing, for tables that have no lines at all. Auto tries Lattice first and falls back to Stream if needed.

What does the accuracy score mean?

It is a measured confidence score for how cleanly a table's structure, its rows, columns and cell boundaries, was detected. Tables below the threshold you set are left out of the result so garbled data does not end up hiding in a sheet.

Why does a table without visible lines detect worse?

Without grid lines, detection has to guess column boundaries from spacing alone, which is less certain than reading a drawn line. Try Stream mode, since it is built for this case.

What if my PDF is a scan?

A scan has no text layer to read tables from. Run OCR PDF on it first, then extract tables from the result.

Do formulas carry over?

No. A PDF never contains formulas, only the values a spreadsheet produced when it was exported.

How do I get CSV instead of an Excel workbook?

Use PDF to CSV. It runs the same table detection and gives you individual CSV files instead.

How long is my file kept on the server?

The uploaded PDF is deleted as soon as the job finishes. The workbook stays downloadable for one hour and is wiped from the server within about two hours, whether or not you download it.
