How to Extract to CSV

  1. 1

    Upload your PDF

A report, invoice, statement or any document with tables, up to 300 MB and 200 pages.

  2. 2

    Pick a delimiter and encoding

Match whatever the tool you are importing into expects, whether that is a database import, a script or Google Sheets.

  3. 3

    Download the CSV files

One file per table by default, packaged together when there's more than one.

Why the encoding matters more than it seems

A CSV file is plain text, and text needs an encoding to mean anything. The wrong one turns accented letters and Cyrillic into unreadable symbols the moment you open the file. UTF-8 with a BOM is the default here because Excel treats plain UTF-8 without the marker as Windows-1252 and mangles anything outside basic Latin letters; the BOM tells Excel unambiguously that what follows is UTF-8. Plain UTF-8 without BOM and Windows-1251 are both available too, for tools that expect one of those.

Lattice or Stream, the same detection as PDF to Excel

This tool uses the same table-detection engine as PDF to Excel: Lattice reads tables with visible grid lines, Stream infers columns from text alignment when there are none, and Auto tries Lattice first before falling back. Every table found comes with a measured accuracy score, and tables below the threshold you set are left out of the result rather than exported as broken rows.

One file per table, zipped when there's more than one

A PDF with a single table gives you a single, plain CSV file. Several tables come back as separate files inside one ZIP, named by page and table number, so nothing gets silently merged unless you ask for it. Turning on table merging combines tables that share the same column count into one file with a single header row, which suits a report where the same table repeats across pages.

Processed on our server, deleted automatically

Table detection needs a real layout-analysis engine that no browser-based library provides, so the file is uploaded for processing. The uploaded file is deleted as soon as the job finishes. The result stays downloadable for one hour and is wiped from the server within about two hours, whether or not you download it. There is no account and nothing to clean up by hand.

Frequently asked questions

Why does UTF-8 with BOM matter, and why is it the default?

Excel interprets a plain UTF-8 file without a BOM as Windows-1252 and turns accented letters and Cyrillic into garbled symbols. The BOM is a few invisible bytes at the start of the file that tell Excel unambiguously that the text is UTF-8, so it opens correctly.

What's the difference between Lattice and Stream?

Lattice detects tables drawn with visible grid lines. Stream infers columns from text alignment and spacing for tables with no lines at all. Auto tries Lattice first and falls back to Stream if needed.

What does the accuracy score mean?

A measured confidence score for how cleanly each table's structure was detected. Tables below the accuracy threshold you set are left out of the result rather than exported as broken rows.

Why do I get a ZIP file instead of a single CSV?

When a PDF has more than one table, each becomes its own CSV file, packaged together in a ZIP so nothing gets merged unless you explicitly turn on table merging.

How do I combine tables into one file?

Turn on table merging. Tables that share the same number of columns are combined into a single file with one header row.

What if my PDF is a scan?

A scan has no text layer to read. Run OCR PDF on it first, then extract the tables.

How long is my file kept on the server?

The uploaded PDF is deleted as soon as the job finishes. The CSV stays downloadable for one hour and is wiped from the server within about two hours, whether or not you download it.
