A Convertio Alternative: What Matches and Where Your File Goes
On October 23, 2026, we matched all 25,637 conversions in Convertio's own list against PulsarKit. 193 had a counterpart, 130 of them in the browser; archives, fonts and CAD had none.

Conversion minutes, or no account at all
Convertio is a file converter run by Convertio Limited, a company registered in Cyprus. Its about page says it started in 2014 and supports “25600+ conversions between 300+ file formats”.
Its free tier is counted in server time. The terms describe it as “a maximum of 10 conversion minutes within a 24-hour period”. On October 23, 2026, its upload box said “1 GB maximum file size”. The same paragraph of the terms still named 100 MB.
Ten minutes is not ten files. The terms warn that converting a Full HD video “may be as long as half the actual video duration”. A credit on the paid plans stands for “the amount of server time required to process your file”.
That day, paid plans started at $11.99 a month, or $6.99 a month billed yearly. That buys 1,000 credits a month and files up to 1 GB. They include “Adfree pages”; the free pages carry Google AdSense, its privacy policy says.
PulsarKit is a website with more than 200 free tools for files. There is no sign-up, subscription or payment form, and browser tools have no cap on the number of jobs. The site is paid for by advertising.
193 of 25,637 conversions, checked on October 23, 2026
The script behind Convertio's format menu holds the full list of conversions it offers. On October 23, 2026, that list held 25,637 pairs of one format into another, across 305 formats. Their format pages agree: 262 of the 305 state a count, and every count matched the list.
Those pages sort the formats into ten groups, from 105 image and 62 audio formats down to one CAD format, DXF. Much of the list is breadth. Every video format turns into 56 audio formats, and a Word, Excel or PDF file into 67 image formats.
For each pair we looked for a PulsarKit tool that does it in one step. Options and limits may differ. Both sites change, so this is a count on one date. At that check, 193 of the 25,637 had a counterpart, starting from 71 of the 305 formats. Their list names JPG and JPEG as two formats, and so does this count.
Images matched 94 of 10,986 conversions and video 47 of 3,256. Documents matched 28 of 2,415, audio 13 of 3,416, slides 6 of 1,000 and e-books 4 of 983. Vector files matched 1 of 2,017. Archives, fonts and CAD had none.
The everyday conversions are among the matches: HEIC to JPG, WebP to PNG, MOV and MKV to MP4, and video to MP3 or GIF. So are Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF, and PDF to Word.
Where Convertio goes further
Most of the gap is in what a file can become. Here, video turns into MP4 or GIF, or into MP3, AAC or WAV sound. Convertio turns an MP4 into 31 other video formats, MOV, AVI, MKV and WebM among them. Audio ends in MP3 here, plus MP3 to WAV, while Convertio turns an MP3 into 55 other audio formats, FLAC, M4A and OGG included.
Documents and slides go into PDF here or come out of it. Convertio also converts between them, as in DOC to DOCX or PPT to PPTX, and into its nine e-book formats. It turns JPG and PNG into SVG, AI or EPS vector files and DXF drawings; here, PNG to SVG is the only such tool.
PulsarKit opens and makes ZIP archives only. Convertio reads 23 archive types and writes 17 of them, RAR and 7Z among them. It also handles 15 font formats, such as TTF, OTF and WOFF.
Its OCR page offered 10 free pages, 76 languages and 11 output formats, Word, Excel and searchable PDF among them. Our OCR PDF reads the languages you pick. Our Image to Text does the same in the browser and saves TXT or JSON.
Big files favour Convertio. Its upload box takes files up to 1 GB, and paid plans go to 3, 10 or 20 GB. Our video tools stop at 200 or 300 MB, and browser image tools at 100 MB or less. Convertio also has an API, a command line tool and a Chrome extension. PulsarKit has no desktop program, no version for your own server and no API.
What PulsarKit has that their list does not
The gap also runs the other way. JSON, XML, YAML and Markdown are not in Convertio's list. PulsarKit converts JSON and XML to and from CSV, YAML to and from JSON, and Markdown to and from PDF, all in the browser.
Some common files are missing there too. Their list has no Apple Pages, no OpenDocument spreadsheet and no Canon CR3 or Samsung SRW raw photo. PulsarKit takes Pages and ODS files into PDF, and RAW to JPG develops CR3 and SRW. Video also turns into animated WebP here.
Convertio's menu holds eight converters, OCR and an API. PulsarKit has more than 50 PDF tools, from Split PDF to Redact PDF. It also has tools such as Crop Image, Trim Video and Compress Audio. A list of next tools under each result passes the file on, so a converted photo can go straight into Compress Image.
We ran the same count against another converter: 190 of CloudConvert's 2,091 conversions matched.
Where your file goes
On Convertio, every conversion runs on its servers. Its JPG page says: “All conversions run on Convertio infrastructure.” Its security page places that infrastructure in Germany, and the privacy policy says: “We keep your files in the European Union.”
Input files are deleted right after conversion, the privacy policy says. Output files go when you click the X in your file list; “otherwise, output files are deleted after 24 hours automatically.” Files are tied to your IP address, so only the person who uploaded them can download the result.
On PulsarKit, 130 of the 193 matching conversions ran in the browser that day, so the file stayed on your device. That covers all video and audio conversions, most image ones, PDF to images or text, and Excel to CSV.
The other 63 ran on our server. They take Office, HTML and EPUB files into PDF, and PDF into Word, ODT, RTF, Excel, PowerPoint, CSV or EPUB. EPUB and MOBI conversions and camera RAW, PSD and TIFF files are there too. Those tool pages say the file is deleted after processing and the result is wiped within about two hours. These tools take files of 50 to 300 MB, with up to 30 jobs an hour.
To continue in another tool, PulsarKit may store a local copy of your input or result in this browser. It can remain after you close the tab or restart the browser. Clear PulsarKit’s site data to delete it. To see whether any page sends your file away, ours included, use three checks in your browser.
Which one fits
For a common conversion, such as HEIC to JPG, MOV to MP4 or Excel to CSV, PulsarKit works in the browser. There is no account and no daily count of minutes.
Convertio has what PulsarKit does not for archives, fonts, vector and e-book formats, and rare audio and video types. The same goes for OCR in many languages, files over 300 MB and an API.
