How to Convert to PDF

  1. 1

    Upload your RTF file

Up to 300 MB. RTF is a plain-text format any word processor can write, so files from many different sources are accepted.

  2. 2

    Choose page size

Keep the document's own page size or force A4/Letter, and optionally restrict conversion to a page range.

  3. 3

    Download the PDF

The result renders with the same layout and fonts the RTF file specifies.

Why RTF still shows up today

Rich Text Format was created decades ago so that word processors from different vendors could exchange formatted text without either side needing to understand the other's native file format. That is also why it persists now: legal and medical software, older CRM and case-management systems, and some email clients still export formatted documents as RTF because it is the one formatted-text format nearly everything can write and read.

What survives the conversion

Bold, italic, fonts, colours, tables and embedded images written into the RTF are all rendered into the PDF as specified. This is a straightforward layout conversion, not a reinterpretation, since RTF's formatting model maps cleanly onto what a PDF page can show.

Processed on our server, deleted automatically

RTF files are rendered on PulsarKit's server using LibreOffice's own layout engine. The uploaded file is deleted as soon as the job finishes. The result stays downloadable for one hour and is wiped from the server within about two hours, whether or not you download it.

Frequently asked questions

What is an RTF file, and why would I have one?

Rich Text Format is a formatted-text file any word processor can write and read. It is still commonly produced by legal, medical and older business software that needs broad compatibility more than modern formatting features.

Will formatting like bold, tables and images survive?

Yes. RTF's formatting is rendered directly into the PDF as specified, since it maps cleanly onto what a PDF page represents.

Can I convert just some pages?

Yes. Enter a page range to convert only those pages instead of the whole document.

What happens to fonts I don't have installed?

With font embedding on (the default), fonts used in the document are embedded directly in the PDF or substituted with a metrically compatible equivalent, so the result looks correct on any device.

Can I convert a password-protected RTF file?

No. Password protection on RTF is uncommon, and a protected file is reported rather than failing silently.
