How to Merge PDF
- 1
Add your PDF files
Drop up to fifty PDFs into the box at once, or add them a few at a time. Each file appears as a card with its page count.
- 2
Drag the cards to set the order
Pages are joined top to bottom, in the order the cards sit in. Drag a card to move a whole file; remove one with the cross.
- 3
Click Merge and download
The merged file is built on your device and saved as merged.pdf.
The most common merge there is
Two files, one after the other: a form and its attachment, a contract and its annex, a cover letter and a CV, a scan of the front and the back of the same document. It is the case people search for by name, and it needs nothing more than dropping both files in and checking the order. That is why this page is written for the two-file case: drop both files, check which one comes first, merge.
Order matters, and it is easy to get wrong
The order of the cards is the order of the pages in the result, and the file you added first is not always the one that should come first. A scanner that produces the back page before the front is a familiar annoyance. Drag the cards to swap them, or use the up and down buttons if dragging is awkward. The preview names each file so you can check before you merge rather than after.
What is preserved and what is not
Pages come across exactly as they were: same size, same rotation, same text layer, same embedded fonts and images. Bookmarks and form fields from the second document may not survive the join. A merged PDF has one structure, and two sets of interactive fields cannot always coexist. If the forms must stay fillable, keep the files separate or flatten them first.
Merge two PDFs on a phone
Nothing here needs a computer. Open the page in Safari on an iPhone or in Chrome on Android, tap the drop zone and pick the two documents from Files, Downloads or a cloud drive: the form you were sent and the page you signed, the front and the back of a scanned card. The file list shows both names, and the arrow buttons next to them swap the order if the second one landed first. The merge runs on the phone itself, so even a 40-page scan joins a 2-page form without waiting for any upload. On an iPhone the result goes out through the Share sheet, straight into Mail, WhatsApp or Files; Android saves it to Downloads.
Where your files go
Nowhere. The merge runs inside this page using your own browser and processor, so the PDFs are never uploaded, never queued on a server and never stored. There is no account and no cleanup timer to trust. Close the tab and the files are gone from memory with it.
Frequently asked questions
How many PDF files can I merge at once?
Up to fifty files, totalling 500 MB. That covers almost every bundle of contracts, invoices or scans. If you need more, merge in two rounds: the output of the first round is a normal PDF you can feed straight back in.
Does merging reduce the quality of my PDFs?
No. Pages are copied as complete objects, so text stays selectable, fonts stay embedded and images keep their original resolution. The merged file has the same visual quality as the sources because none of the content is re-encoded.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything happens in your browser, on your device. The files are read into memory, joined and written back out locally, which is why the tool keeps working even after you lose your connection.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
Not directly. A password-protected file cannot have its pages copied, so it is reported by name and the tool offers to open it in Unlock PDF first. Remove the password there, then bring the file back here.
What happens to form fields and signatures?
Form fields are flattened into the page by default, so the filled values stay visible but are no longer editable. Digital signatures cover the file they were made in, so they cannot survive a merge; the visible signature appearance is kept.
Can I change the order of pages inside one file?
Not here. This tool orders whole files. To reorder, rotate or drop individual pages, use Organize PDF, or split the file first and merge the pieces back in the order you want.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The cards can be dragged with a finger and the merge runs in the mobile browser. Very large bundles are limited by the memory of the phone rather than by the tool, so split huge jobs into two rounds.
