The reverse of ePub-to-MOBI, same engine
This is the mirror operation of ePub to MOBI, built on the same Calibre engine and the same DRM check. Structure carries over without reconstruction in both directions, because MOBI and ePub both store flowing, marked-up text rather than the fixed-position character coordinates a PDF uses, so chapters, headings and the table of contents map across directly instead of being guessed at.
Why this conversion is needed at all
Everything reads ePub except Kindle itself, which is exactly backwards from what most people expect. A MOBI file exported from an old Kindle library, or an AZW3 book bought without DRM, opens on a phone, tablet or any other e-reader app only after this conversion, and this tool exists for that gap.
Choosing ePub 2 versus ePub 3
ePub 3, the current standard, is the right default. ePub 2 trades some ePub 3 capability, such as font obfuscation and certain CSS properties, for compatibility with genuinely old reading software that never implemented ePub 3 at all. Pick it only if you know the destination app or device specifically needs it.
Processed on our server, deleted automatically
Parsing MOBI's proprietary PalmDOC compression and building a valid ePub 3 file needs a real conversion engine, so the file is processed on PulsarKit's server. The uploaded file is deleted as soon as the job finishes. The result stays downloadable for one hour and is wiped from the server within about two hours, whether or not you download it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert books I bought on Amazon?
Only if they are not protected by DRM. If they are, conversion is not possible and no workaround is offered, the same policy applied to every DRM-protected file across the site.
What's the difference between ePub 2 and ePub 3 here?
ePub 3 is the current standard and the right default. ePub 2 sacrifices a few ePub 3 features for compatibility with very old reading software that never added ePub 3 support.
Will the cover image survive?
Yes by default. Turn “keep cover” off if you specifically want it removed from the result.
Does this support AZW3?
Yes. .mobi, .azw and .azw3 are all accepted, with the same DRM check applied to each.
How long does the file stay on the server?
The uploaded file is deleted as soon as the job finishes. The converted ePub stays downloadable for one hour and is wiped from the server within about two hours, whether or not you download it.
Why does this need a server instead of running in my browser?
MOBI's PalmDOC text compression and internal index structures are proprietary enough that no independent WebAssembly implementation exists; only Calibre reliably reads and writes them.
