How to Add watermark

  1. 1

    Add your PDF

Drop one file or up to twenty into the box. Each document is opened by your own browser, never by a server.

  2. 2

Set the mark and its opacity

Type a word such as DRAFT or pick a PNG or JPG logo, then choose tiling or one of ten spots, the angle, the opacity and whether it sits over or under the page.

  3. 3

    Download the watermarked PDF

Press the button and save the result. Several files come back as one ZIP archive.

Text and logos are drawn, not baked in

A text mark is written into the page as real text with a transparency state, so the document underneath keeps its selectable text, its images and its original compression. A logo is embedded once for the whole file and then referenced from every page, which is why a two megabyte PNG adds about two megabytes to the result rather than two megabytes per page. Tiling repeats the same mark on a staggered grid, and the page itself clips whatever runs past the edge.

Over the page or under it

The over layer puts the mark on top of everything, which is what most people want from a DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL stamp. The under layer inserts it before the existing content, so body text stays crisp and the mark peeks through white space only. Under is the right choice for a faint background logo, but on a page that paints a solid white rectangle first, nothing below it will ever show, and the mark seems to vanish.

Your file stays on your device

The PDF and the logo are read, stamped and rewritten inside your browser tab. There is no upload, no queue on a server, and no copy left behind for anyone to delete later. Close the tab and both files are gone from memory, which matters for contracts and unpublished drafts.

Frequently asked questions

Can the watermark be removed later?

Not easily. Once saved, the mark is ordinary page content, so removing it means editing the page rather than switching a setting off. Keep your original file if you will need a clean copy of the same document.

What is the difference between over and under?

Over draws the mark on top of the page content; under slips it beneath. Under keeps text fully readable, but it stays invisible on pages that fill themselves with a solid white background first, which is common in exported reports.

Which opacity looks right?

Between 15 and 30 percent for a mark that should be obvious without fighting the text. Go to 40 or more for a stamp meant to discourage reuse, and drop to 8 for a faint background logo behind body copy.

Does a logo with a transparent background work?

Yes, if it is a PNG with an alpha channel. Its transparency is preserved and combines with the opacity setting. JPG has no transparency, so a JPG logo always arrives as a rectangle with whatever background colour it was saved with.

Does Cyrillic or Chinese text work as a mark?

Yes. The three built-in PDF fonts cover only Western European letters, so any other script switches the mark to an embedded Noto subset automatically. That adds 40 to 120 KB once per document, whatever the page count.

How much bigger will my file get?

A text mark costs a few hundred bytes per page, a little more when tiled. An image mark costs its own size once, plus a small reference per page. A 300 KB logo on a 200 page report adds well under a megabyte.

Can I mark only some of the pages?

Yes. Type a range such as 1-3 or 2-40 in the pages field and only those sheets are stamped. Leaving the field on all covers the whole document, which is the usual choice for a confidentiality mark.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in JavaScript inside your browser tab, and neither the PDF nor the logo leaves your device. There is no account and no server-side copy, so even a two gigabyte document is handled locally.
