How to Crop PDF
- 1
Add your PDF
Drop the file into the box or pick it from your device. It is opened by your own browser, so even a large scan starts instantly.
- 2
Drag the crop box or pick auto margins
Set the box in points, or switch to margin mode and trim the same amount in millimetres off every edge. Choose which pages it applies to.
- 3
Download the cropped PDF
Press the button and save the result. Page count, text and images are untouched, only the visible page area changes.
What cropping changes in a PDF
A PDF page carries two rectangles. The MediaBox is the sheet the page was made on; the CropBox is the part a viewer displays. Cropping here rewrites both, so the page looks trimmed in Chrome, Acrobat and Preview alike, and prints trimmed too. Nothing is redrawn or rasterised: every glyph, vector and image stays where it was, which is why the text is still selectable and searchable afterwards and the file size barely moves. Because only the boxes change, the crop is reversible: set the box back to the full sheet and the original area returns.
Even margins, exact boxes and rotated pages
Margin mode takes millimetres and trims the same amount off all four edges, which is what most scans and print-ready exports need. Box mode takes an exact rectangle in points when you know the geometry you want. Pages carrying a rotation flag are handled in the coordinate system you see, not the one stored on disk, so a page rotated 90 degrees crops where you expect. You can crop every page, only odd or even pages, or a range such as 1-3, 5.
Where your file is processed
The PDF is read, cropped and written by your own browser. It is never uploaded, never queued on a server and never stored anywhere we can reach. There is no account and no email step. When you close the tab, the file and the result are gone from memory with it.
Frequently asked questions
Is the cropped content deleted for good?
No. Cropping hides the area outside the box by changing the page rectangles, and the content outside it is still inside the file. If you need it truly gone, flatten the page to an image or use a redaction tool instead.
What is the difference between CropBox and MediaBox?
MediaBox is the physical sheet the page was designed on. CropBox is the region a viewer shows. Some viewers and most printers ignore CropBox alone, so this tool writes both by default and the crop looks the same everywhere.
Why did cropping not make my file smaller?
Because nothing is removed. The text, fonts and images outside the box are still stored, only the visible rectangle shrank. To cut the file size, run the cropped PDF through a compression tool afterwards.
How do I crop every page the same way?
Set the box once and leave the page selection on all pages. The same rectangle in points is written to every page. This works cleanly when the pages share one format, which is the usual case for an exported or scanned document.
Does it work on a PDF with mixed page sizes?
One box in points cannot mean the same thing on A4 and Letter, so the tool stops and lists the pages that do not match rather than trimming them wrongly. Margin mode has no such limit: millimetres off each edge work on any format.
Does the text stay selectable after cropping?
Yes. The page is never turned into a picture. Fonts, text and vector graphics survive untouched, so search, copy and screen readers keep working as they did before the crop.
How do I crop the margins off a scan?
Use margin mode and start at ten millimetres, which clears the typical white border of a flatbed scan. Raise it if a dark scanner edge is still visible, and check the result before saving over your original.
